Salamander Brooch

A Victorian figural brooch designed as a salamander, crafted in 15-karat yellow gold and most likely of English origin.

The body is fully dimensional and carefully modeled, measuring approximately 2 1/4 inches in length from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. The proportions are naturalistic, with a gently curved spine and tapering tail that creates fluid movement across the surface.

Fifty-nine seed pearls are individually set along the outer contour of the body, forming a continuous frame that emphasizes the silhouette. The pearls are well matched and provide a soft luster against the warm tone of the gold.

A central longitudinal band of eight turquoise stones runs the length of the torso. The turquoise is evenly graduated and securely set, offering strong color contrast and visual structure to the design. Two pink rubies are set as the eyes, adding precise detail and subtle brilliance.

Each foot is articulated with five distinct webbed toes, carefully shaped and proportioned to enhance realism. The modeling of the limbs and head reflects the Victorian fascination with natural forms and detailed figural work.
