A Victorian figural brooch designed as a salamander, crafted in 15-karat yellow gold and most likely of English origin.
The body is fully dimensional and carefully modeled, measuring approximately 2 1/4 inches in length from the tip of the nose to the end of the tail. The proportions are naturalistic, with a gently curved spine and tapering tail that creates fluid movement across the surface.
This brooch is featured in What’s New – Volume 105 by Joden Girl, where its design and period context are discussed further. Check out the blog entry for additional background and imagery.
